If you spend any time on social media, you know how easy it is to read, see and hear the “bad news” of the day. The scares, the fears, the threats are posted and reposted until some days it seems there is no good news at all. As I have rested in Pappa’s presence about this, I have seen a common thread. Through ebola, Ferguson, Isis and tragedies that seem to come day by day, I feel such an ache for all that has been lost – things I cannot fully put words to. But in the ache, I find myself filled with a truth. The enemy of Heaven’s heart and hope simply wants us to stop touching one another and to not allow ourselves to be touched. Through the opposing imagination of fear, he would draw us to think upon all the dreadful things that could happen and how to protect ourselves from them. But we were not made for that. We were created to dwell in the imagination of Heaven and bring forth what was always intended. We were formed, we were built to create, restore, redeem and remember.
The beautiful may seem too simple, but it is what reminds us that He is here, He is with us and He never stops inviting us to overwhelm the world with who He is by being who we really, really and truly are. Overwhelm is an amazing word. It is a word used most often in the negative when we have had too much, when we are “done”. But the hebrew word for overwhelm means ‘to be rinsed or washed clean’. My own definition is ‘to be prepared, made ready for what we are meant to contain’. Could we give the world so much beauty that those who live inside, those captive to the despair and defeat might find their way out? Could we wash them and prepare them with the very thing they were created for, made of?
Yes!!! Even if that answer sounds like the tiny yelp from apartment 2B in Horton Hears a Who, join us in this adventure. Soon, it will become a tremor that leads to a quake and we can shake the world free.
We don’t know how long Pappa wants us to do this – so we will go till He says stop. Each day, post something that reminds you of the beauty you are from, that touches you with beautiful. It could be a picture of a beautiful sunrise or sunset, a memory you had. It could be what happened in a sleepless night or as you picked up your kids toys for the fiftieth time. It could be a song, a quote an experience. It could be the person checking you out at the store or who smiled at you as you tried to get to that place you have to be. Beauty is everywhere. Find it, discover it and share it. #touchedbybeautiful
