Blue Flame 47 Blood Drive Attracts Two Dozen Donors, Raises Money for Bixby Outreach Center

Blue Flame 47, a nonprofit, church and international ministry based in Bixby, hosted a blood drive to help alleviate a blood donation shortage while benefiting a neighboring non-profit.

Shari Norvell, Blue Flame 47’s co-founder and pastor, has known several people who have needed blood donations, so she wanted to get involved.

“We saw this as a way that we could help, and then we are a non-profit that helps other non-profits, so we don’t always have to do everything ourselves,” said Norvell. “We can come alongside each other, lift each other’s arms, encourage each other.”

About two dozen people donated blood in a span of three hours. Our Blood Institute says each blood donation can help up to three patients. These blood donations will go to patients around Green Country.

In addition to blood donations, the Bixby Outreach Center, which provides daily food assistance, will be receiving monetary donations based on the number of donors.

First time donors generated $100 in funding, and returning donors generated $15 per blood donation for Bixby Outreach Center.

“With partnerships like this, it just helps with our operating cost, it helps keep our doors open, it helps keep food in our pantry to serve our community,” said Julie Prox, Bixby Outreach Center executive director.

Donors were also entered to win a $10,000 vacation and received a t-shirt and theme park ticket of their choice.
