Home in Now
In the last few years I’ve become quite the homebody. I suspect I always would have been if I’d had a consistent home to occupy. Now that I do, I cling to the space where I have all the “comforts of home.”
As we have been rekindling the truth and delight of daily bread these recent weeks, Pappa has been showing me the home He has created for me to occupy in every now. No matter where I am, no matter the time, He has created a space for me where I can feel all the comforts of home, the comfort that comes from dwelling in the home He has provided for me, in every moment.
This has been a game changer for my nervous system.
The world is unpredictable, but the home He’s made for me isn’t.
It’s reliable.
So I’m trying to recognize now, when my nervous system spikes, I get to run to the mountain of the Lord. I get to choose to turn to that face-to-face space, knowing that God already has everything I need to be housed in during what’s set before us. Whatever the moment calls for, God has already provided for. It’s simply my choice to use His provision or not. To occupy Him in the moment or not.
Learning to recognize and dwell in the home He’s made for me has been one of the most precious ways I’ve come to know our God. It’s having a personal savior, regulator, and supply, meeting every heart cry. Over and over again.
Remembering daily bread and the home of now returns me to safety.
And when, in one second, I think I’m facing a hardship or something scary, and then, in the next, I’m facing my God instead, I’m returned to praise. I’m returned to grace, to pace, and to portion, with all the comforts of home.
INVITATIONS
Invite God to show you how He’s reliable, even in times when the world isn’t. How He’s trustworthy to be all the balance you need, even if the world seems off kilter.
Invite God to show you how to enter and aweccupy the home He’s made for you in every now. Sometimes it may seem easier than others, but He’s always there and available, and so are the comforts of being held and provided for.
